Overview

Hempsons is a leading law firm for the health and social care, charity, and social enterprise sectors, with 250 staff across five offices. The firm aims to deliver outstanding legal services while providing a positive workplace culture.

Reporting to the Applications and Data Manager, this hybrid role requires in-office presence at least 2 days per week and may require additional office days for specific tasks and projects. The role is suitable for an experienced Senior Applications Analyst to support management, development, and optimisation of core legal applications and data systems, and to contribute to key projects delivering new applications to the business. The role offers exposure to innovative technologies, including Generative AI and Data Analytics, aligned with the firm’s wider strategy.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Applications Analyst to support the management, development, and optimisation of our core legal applications and data systems. The successful candidate will join the Applications and Data team responsible for ensuring business-critical applications are maintained, upgraded, and integrated effectively. You will work alongside other Applications Analysts and report to the Applications and Data Manager. You will contribute to day-to-day support of Legal applications and be involved in projects delivering new applications to the business.

Key responsibilities include participating in projects to drive innovation and change within the firm, and ensuring lasting impact on how the firm provides legal services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical ownership and support of the firm’s core legal application systems, including Aderant Expert and Expert Time, Visual Files, and Microsoft 365.
  • Workflow optimisation, system integrations, and low-code development using the Power Platform.
  • SQL Server administration, reporting, and secure data integrations across business platforms.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for the IT Service Desk and other Applications Analysts.

Core Technical Areas

  • Aderant Expert PMS and Expert Time; technical ownership and integrations.
  • Visual Files: configuration, maintenance, and development; SQL Server databases; data integrity and security.
  • Reporting: SQL queries, Power BI dashboards, data flows, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Artificial Intelligence: developing capabilities using the firm’s Generative AI platform, identifying use cases, playbook creation, and knowledge transfer.
  • Microsoft 365: SharePoint intranet, client portals on SharePoint and Aderant Drive; Power Platform development (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI).
  • Application Development: bespoke applications and background processes using C#, PowerShell, Python, ASP, VBScript; development within Visual Studio.
  • Cyber Security: adherence to security best practices and standards (ISO27001, Cyber Essentials Plus); contributes to firm-wide security compliance.

Essential Skillset

  • Proven administration of Aderant Expert with workflow optimisation and integrations; strong Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, and Power Platform skills.
  • Experience in Public Cloud environments (Microsoft Azure, AWS); strong SQL Server management and SSRS reporting.
  • Experience designing and supporting data integrations across legal and business systems; familiarity with IT change and release management; strong data protection practices.
  • Ability to create high-quality documentation and share knowledge across teams; familiarity with ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus.

  • Microsoft Azure – server management and fundamentals
  • Microsoft SQL Server and SSRS
  • Basic application development (C#, PowerShell, etc.)

  • Experience enabling generative AI use cases, playbooks, and prompt engineering

Key Communication and Relationships

  • Reports to the Applications and Data Manager
  • Works with the Applications and Data team and the IT Training Team; provides technical escalation for the IT Service Desk
