Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Civil Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Scotland. Our design hubs are in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth and Aberdeen with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly. Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team designs some of the largest civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. We also have long-term contracts with NMC and a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities and established contractors across the country.
The role
Our Senior Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client, Transport Scotland. As a Senior Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of road schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria.
- Oversee the actions of more junior staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions.
- Take responsibility for the commercial success of projects within the portfolio, controlling budgets and managing costs associated with the production of deliverables.
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
- Contribute to the preparation of bids and the general work-winning function.
- Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us
- Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, likely gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
- Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising junior staff.
- Experience in project-related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare management, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Capable of acting as day-to-day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission (e.g., Contractor’s Responsible Engineer for Network Rail schemes).
- Very good working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools.
- Demonstrates good commercial awareness and a strong understanding of CDM and risk assessment; substantial experience in managing and communicating hazards and risks with appropriate mitigation.
- Capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects.
- Successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence. Incorporated or Chartered status gained through the professional institution is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
