Job Title: Senior Data Scientist
Contract Type: Permanent, Full‑time
Department: BBC Product Group – Product Growth
Location: London / Newcastle / Salford / Glasgow – Hybrid (flexible working options available)
Salary: £57,000 – £67,000 (based on relevant skills, knowledge and experience, internal benchmarking and market insights)

Purpose of the Role

The BBC has been serving audiences online for decades across key products such as BBC iPlayer. As we evolve to deliver more personalised content and experiences, Data Science is at the heart of that transformation. As a member of the Product Growth team, you will use ML/AI to enrich content and power personalised experiences for millions of audience members.

Essential Criteria – Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of data science and machine learning techniques, best practices, recent advances, and implementation in production.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python or R.
  • Knowledge of code management and deployment best practices.
  • Ability to prioritise and work in a structured manner within cross‑functional teams.
  • Effective communication to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Desired – But Not Required

  • Track record of delivering value in production.
  • Experience with cloud services and related challenges.
  • Knowledge of experimentation in data science (e.g., A/B testing).
  • Experience with model lifecycle management and MLOps.
  • Mentoring experience.
