The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The successful candidate will work with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinating and driving all aspects of the investigations from lines of enquiry and intelligence through to case file preparation and prosecution.
We are committed to an inclusive and diverse workforce and support flexible working patterns for all vacancies. This role is hybrid, with work from home and from your nearest Environment Agency Office, and requires frequent travel for meetings and operational duties. Responding to incidents is also a central part of the role, and you may be required to take on an incident role or provide business continuity support during an incident. Full training and workplace adjustments will be provided as needed.

- Collaborate with Partnership Organisations and develop the investigative team and processes for complex investigations, including work with Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports, and large-scale fraud.
- Work alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to drive cases forward and contribute to team development.
Experience and Skills
- High level of attention to detail, hardworking, self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
- In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Desirable: experience leading on serious criminal investigations, workings of a Major Incident Room, and ability to drive and develop investigation teams.
