Overview

The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced investigator to join the National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. You will work with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply investigative skills to cases involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate and progress investigations into serious environmental offences, including identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, and preparing case files for prosecution.
  • Collaborate with Partnership Organisations and lead or develop investigative teams and complex investigations.
  • Work with the Major Incident Room to drive investigations forward and ensure timely outcomes.
  • Prepare for and participate in prosecutions, ensuring compliance with relevant investigative processes.
  • Travel as required and support incident response and business continuity duties when incidents occur.

Experience and Qualifications

  • High level of attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written communication skills; basic IT competence (Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime and experience leading serious criminal investigations; experience with Major Incident Rooms is desirable.
  • Proven ability to drive, use initiative, build and develop investigation teams.
  • Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting within a 6-month probationary period.
  • Full driving licence required.

Role Details

  • Hybrid working role; frequent travel to meetings and operational duties; incident role with availability to respond to incidents (may attract additional payment). Training and workplace adjustments provided.
