This is a hybrid working role. You will work flexibly from home and your nearest Environment Agency Office, with travel for meetings and operational duties as required. You will be expected to respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents, with full training and workplace adjustments available.

You will join the National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. You will work with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinating all aspects from identification of lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.

This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team, and involves working with Partnership Organisations to drive and develop investigative teams and complex investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate major environmental crime investigations, including identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, and preparing case files for prosecution.
  • Work alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to drive investigations forward and develop the team.
  • Manage investigations that may involve Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.
  • Contribute to the development of investigative teams and be involved in the planning and execution of complex investigations.

Experience/Skills Required

  • High attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written skills; basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime, leading on serious criminal investigations and the workings of a Major Incident Room is desirable.
  • Experience in driving, using initiative to solve problems, and building/developing investigation teams is beneficial.
  • Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period is required.
  • Full driving licence required.
