Overview

The Environment Agency are looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong investigative background, good communication skills and a sound working knowledge of all aspects of running a major investigation. This role involves leading investigations into serious environmental crimes and coordinating across teams to drive cases forward.

Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinating and overseeing all aspects from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.
  • Coordinate evidence gathering, interviews, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, and ensuring progress across the investigation lifecycle.
  • Work with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to drive complex investigations and develop the investigative team.
  • Engage with Partnership Organisations as appropriate and contribute to developing team capabilities.
  • Travel as required for meetings and operational duties; respond to incidents as part of the role and provide business continuity support during incidents.

Qualifications and experience

  • High level of attention to detail, hard work and self-motivation with a strong investigative background.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written skills; basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime, experience in leading on serious criminal investigations, and familiarity with the workings of a Major Incident Room is desirable.
  • Experience in building and developing investigation teams and driving complex investigations is beneficial.
  • Successful completion of both SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes is required within a 6-month probationary period.
  • Full driving licence is required.

Working arrangements

  • This is a hybrid working role with flexibility to work from home and a nearby Environment Agency Office.
  • Frequent travel and incident response responsibilities are part of the role and may attract additional payment; full training and workplace adjustments will be provided to support your incident role.
