The Environment Agency are looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with a strong investigative background, good communication skills and knowledge of running major investigations. Experience with Partnership Organisations and leading investigative teams is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate major environmental crime investigations, from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.
  • Work with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to drive investigations into serious environmental offences.
  • Coordinate evidence gathering, interviews, and interagency liaison; manage actions and intelligence; contribute to team development.
  • Handle investigations involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.

Team

This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The National Investigations Team is a nationally dispersed group of Investigators.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Attention to detail, hardworking and self-motivated with strong investigative background.
  • Knowledge of investigative legislation (PACE, CPIA); verbal and written communication; basic IT (Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime and major incident room operations desirable.
  • Ability to lead, develop investigation teams and drive complex investigations.
  • Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting within 6-month probation; full driving licence.

Role specifics

  • Hybrid working, travel to meetings and operational duties; respond to incidents with training and support; may include additional payment for incident role.
