Base pay range

We’re on the lookout for a standout senior health and safety leader—someone who combines technical expertise with energy, accountability and a strong sense of purpose.

This role goes beyond compliance. It’s about making health and safety feel real, relevant and empowering - for every single person who works here.

You’ll be a visible, trusted voice across the organisation. From our trades teams to our Chief Exec, you’ll be out and about, building relationships, influencing decisions and helping people do the right thing. If you’re someone who brings credibility, warmth and a natural ability to connect in conversations that matter, we’d love to hear from you.

A bit about us

You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider, but we’re so much more than that. Yes, we own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and make it possible for current and future customers to have a place they’re proud to call home, but we’re also on a mission to shift from a reactive to a pre-emptive service delivery model and transform our customers’ experience. We empower our people with the freedom and flexibility to do their best work. We’re big on tech, big on progress, and even bigger on doing the right thing, not the easy thing.

What you’ll be getting stuck into

This is a senior leadership role with loads of influence. Reporting directly into the Executive, you’ll lead a small but talented team of specialists, providing direction and empowering them to think creatively, work collaboratively and deliver exceptional support across the organisation. You’ll shape our health and safety strategy, and make sure it’s not just compliant - but forward-thinking, people-focused and part of our everyday culture.

As the designated competent person for all things H&S, you’ll use your professional expertise to advise our Executive Team on key matters whilst also being the go-to advisor for colleagues across the business. From major incident planning to everyday wellbeing, you’ll help us manage risk, respond to challenges and keep improving.

You’ll also be the voice of health and safety - sharing insights, presenting data and working with stakeholders at every level to make sure our approach is clear, consistent and impactful.

What else you’ll be doing…

  • Keeping our leaders in the loop with clear, confident health & safety reporting.
  • Making sure our H&S policies are easy to understand, up to date, and followed.
  • Compiling data, performance reporting and analysis for the Executive Team and our Board, and driving targeted improvement actions. Leading regular inspections and audits - and making sure we act on what we find.

Where you’ll work

While you’ll have the flexibility to work from home when it suits, it’s equally important that you’re visible across the business - visiting our hubs across Yorkshire, spending time with teams who work within our communities and being present in our Leeds workspace.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced senior H&S Leader, able to advise and inspire at every level and a brilliant communicator. We need someone who can connect with anyone, challenge constructively, and lead confidently. You don’t need housing experience, but you do need to know how to navigate a complex, customer-facing, multi-site organisation.

You’ll bring:

  • Senior-level Health & Safety leadership experience
  • Current or previous experience of having responsibility for Health & Safety in an organisation
  • A track record of building strong safety cultures
  • Ability to analyse and present concise performance reporting
  • A pragmatic, detail-focused approach to managing risk and performance
  • Leadership skills that inspire others to aim high
  • A coaching mindset and a passion for people development
  • Confidence presenting at all levels within an organisation

What’s in it for you…

  • Salary: £73,237 per annum (35 hours/week)
  • 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 annually) + Bank Holidays

We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

Our people’s health and wellbeing are one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and believe that difference makes us stronger. If your experience doesn’t tick every box but you think you’d thrive in this role—please apply.
