Job Description We are looking to recruit an Interaction Designer who can work effectively in multidisciplinary, agile teams to deliver excellent results for Version 1’s customers in the public and private sector. You will be experienced in designing services that are accessible, usable and inclusive and comfortable using a range of tools such as Figma and the GOV.UK prototype kit. You’ll work with users and stakeholders to determine the best way to design services that meet user needs and business objectives. Your portfolio will demonstrate your ability to understand users and design to meet their needs, work to relevant design standards and communicate your design decisions effectively. Qualifications
Design thinking and evidence‑based design.
Strong understanding of design thinking and can apply frameworks. Evidence‑based approach, test assumptions, simplest feasible solutions.
Focus on users and their needs.
Basic user research activity, collaborate with user researchers to understand users and test designs for usability and accessibility. Design to meet wide range of user needs, explain design decisions and constraints.
Concepts and prototyping.
Create and iterate a variety of prototypes, selecting the appropriate level of fidelity and tools. Evaluate concepts and prototypes, explain to stakeholders. Apply and adapt appropriate design patterns, participate in design community.
Experience of accessible/inclusive design.
Understand key principles and considerations for accessible/inclusive design and apply appropriately. Evaluate designs in relation to accessibility standards.
Knowledge and experience of design standards.
Deep understanding of inclusive design and accessibility, familiarity with WCAG 2.2. Knowledge of UK public sector design standards, GDS service standards, GOV.UK design system patterns, assessment processes.
Consultancy skills.
Communicate design process and decisions effectively to gain confidence of internal colleagues and customers. Manage stakeholders, know when to elevate issues, seek support to unblock design work.
Agile working in multidisciplinary teams.
Understand user‑centred design practices and align work to agile workflows across stages of development lifecycle. Work in open, iterative and collaborative way in multidisciplinary team.
