Job Description

Our Public Sector client is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide support to the Estates Head of Professional and Technical Services, delivering mechanical design advice and strategic direction for Estates and Technical Services. The postholder will act as design champion, ensure a standard suite of design standards is available and reviewed, provide project-specific guidance and assistance to deliver high-quality outcomes, and coordinate business and design improvement initiatives. You will provide technical support to Project Managers and Estates Maintenance teams on the design, operation, maintenance and safety of mechanical systems. Undertake inspections of installed systems and audits of working practices to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safe operating conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide design guidance and ensure standard design standards are available and kept under review; support delivery of projects with high-quality outcomes.
  • Promote quality design and contribute to the client and users of the buildings and estate.
  • Coordinate business and design improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers and Estates Maintenance teams on design, operation, maintenance and safety of mechanical systems.
  • Undertake inspections of installed systems and audits to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safe operating conditions.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant Mechanical discipline.
  • Member of a relevant professional body.
  • Comprehensive experience of mechanical design, design management and processes, especially for significant infrastructure projects; ability to negotiate with and influence others to achieve project outputs.
  • Experience in researching and developing strategic responses to estates business needs.

Desirable Skills

  • Specialist knowledge of mechanical systems related to climate change and zero direct emissions.
  • Experience in defining and setting technical standards and monitoring performance and delivery, initiating corrective actions and improvements as required.
