Summary: Working with the Philanthropy team, the Senior Philanthropy Manager – Trusts & Foundations will play a key role in driving new high-value relationships with Trusts & Foundations and raising six- and seven-figure income for our three charities: Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, Evelina London Children’s Charity, and Guy’s Cancer Charity. The role will help shape and develop the new fundraising strategy and predominantly manages relationships with Trusts & Foundations, with a possible small portfolio of Major Donors as needed.

The role will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with trustees, influencers and staff of grant-giving organisations, leading on large-scale projects and solicitations. As a senior member of staff, you will contribute to strategic planning, decision making and problem solving to help achieve ambitious income targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write clear and compelling fundraising proposals to charitable Trusts and Foundations with capacity for six- to seven-figure grants and donations.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with trustees, influencers and funder staff; represent Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation while supporting others to communicate with funders.
  • Collaborate with academics and clinicians to develop strong cases for support for major projects.
  • Develop and manage an effective stewardship programme for Trusts and Foundations donors, including reports and communications.
  • Act as a Trusts and Foundations specialist on behalf of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation.

Decision making, planning and problem solving

  • Identify internal fundraising priorities aligned with Trusts and Foundations’ objectives.
  • Work with Prospect Research to build a pipeline of high-calibre prospects with capacity to give.
  • Balance multiple complex relationships and projects while responding to new opportunities.
  • Prioritise time and resources to maximise income for the team.
  • Map out donor development plans for key accounts and calendar activities for the year ahead.
  • Make independent professional decisions and advise colleagues as appropriate.

Service delivery

  • Generate annual income according to agreed targets (individual and team).
  • Manage and implement the Trusts and Foundations programme and contribute to strategy and plans.
  • Meet KPIs for meetings and pledged income; establish gift agreements with funders.
  • Contribute to team planning and performance monitoring to maximise growth.
  • Show enterprise and creativity in developing Trusts and Foundations fundraising.
  • Respond to stakeholders regarding fundraising requests.

Analysis and research

  • Contribute to team-wide evaluation to inform annual planning and strategy.
  • Maintain donor data in the database and perform data analyses as required.
  • Benchmark activity with other organisations and use results to support new activity.
  • Undertake research with the Prospect Research team to inform cultivation.

Teamwork and learning

  • Communicate a clear vision and share plans with other teams as appropriate.
  • Present at staff training and induction events as required.
  • Coordinate with high-value fundraising teams and the Prospect Research team for a unified approach.
  • Promote the work of the Trusts and Foundations team and represent the team and organisation at events and conferences.
  • Assist with campaigns and special projects as necessary and provide cover when needed.

Working Environment

  • Hybrid work: generally 2 days per week in London office and 3 days from home.
  • Maintain databases and files relevant to the post; may attend evening or weekend events.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Ability to understand complex situations quickly and develop creative solutions.
  • Strategic team player with strong relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail; sound judgment and confident decision making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to present a case convincingly.
  • Ability to initiate and implement a coherent fundraising programme; strong project management skills.
  • Experience with Trusts and Foundations fundraising and five- to six-figure (or higher) donations.
  • Knowledge of fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) or similar.

Qualifications

  • Significant fundraising experience, including proposal writing or transferable income-generation experience.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience meeting tight deadlines and working with Trusts and Foundations.
  • Knowledge of working with Trusts and Foundations within fundraising.
