Communities & Skills
Collaborative, open, inclusive and fair - we work with and through partners to ensure Londoners can shape healthy, empowered and productive lives. Communities and Skills is led by Executive Director, Tunde Olayinka and is comprised of the following units: Civil Society & Sport, Communities & Social Policy, Group Public Health Unit, Skills and Employment and Health, Children and Young Londoners.
About The Team
The Financial Hardship team provides impartial policy advice to the Mayor of London and the London Assembly on issues relating to poverty and financial insecurity in London. It also delivers a number of the Mayor’s programmes in support of London households on low incomes.
About The Role
Roles in the Financial Hardship team cover a mix of policy and delivery-focused activity and involve regular close working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. We often act as subject matter experts on issues relating to financial hardship. We get involved in the full policy and delivery cycle – helping to answer the question of how the GLA or its partners should respond to a given issue and then leading or supporting the establishment of appropriate and effective interventions.
What your day will look like
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to shape and deliver programmes to support Londoners on low incomes
- Writing briefings and consultation responses on behalf of the Mayor of London
- Supporting the effective scrutiny and oversight of GLA activity by responding to London Assembly members’ questions and committee investigations
- Maintaining an overview of developments in policy and legislation
- Being responsible for ensuring projects are delivered in line with governance and finance processes
To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:
- Expert knowledge and experience of social policy, in particular within a London context.
- A track record of successful project management, and delivering results on target and within budget.
- Experience and understanding of policy development processes within a complex political environment, including first rate analytical skills, and with an eye on how policy will be implemented in practice.
- Excellent knowledge of the stakeholders and relationships that are key to the development and delivery of social policy in London.
How to apply
If you would like to apply for the role you will need to submit the following:
- Up to date CV
- Personal statement with a maximum of 1500 words. Please ensure you address how you demonstrate the essential criteria outlined above in the advert.
Word or PDF format preferred and do not include any photographs or images. Please ensure your CV and Personal Statement are saved with the job reference number as part of the naming convention (E.g., “CV – applicant name - 012345)
As part of GLA’s continuing commitment to be an inclusive and equal opportunity employer we will be removing personal identifiable information from CVs and Personal Statements that could cause discrimination.
