Overview of the Role

We are seeking a senior engineering professional with proven experience in Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) design and a willingness to support Airfield Design across the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will contribute to the design of AGL and Movement Area Guidance (MAG) signage layouts, pit and duct design, cabling design, approach lighting design, Pilot Approach Lighting (PAPI) design, High Mast Lighting (HML) design, and the production of related specifications, all in accordance with relevant design standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Senior and Principal Airfield Engineers in the development of Airfield designs for airports worldwide.
• Lead or support senior-level preparation of AGL and MAG design projects.
• Understand and apply pertinent design standards across Civil and Military domains and keep up to date with their evolution.
• Analyse existing baseline, survey and as-built information.
• Undertake design of AGL and MAG for runways, taxiways, aprons, service roads, etc.
• Assist in the production of Civil 3D design of AGL and MAG related assets.
• Coordinate AGL designs with other disciplines including pavement engineering and structural engineering.
• Prepare adequate specifications for AGL, MAG and HML works.
• Develop feasible, logical and efficient work phasing proposals for construction works.
• Undertake electrical works design and design reviews covering all stages of design.
• Assist in the preparation of methodologies, design proposals, resources estimation, and bid preparation.
• Visit airfields in the UK and overseas to monitor construction works and produce progress reports.

Candidate specification

• A degree in electrical engineering or a degree that includes elements of Electrical Engineering.
• The right to work in the UK.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages will be valued.
• Demonstrable professional experience in AGL, MAG and HML design.

• Competent in the use of AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D; other software such as AviPlan, Infraworks, Navisworks, Revit and 3D visualisation tools will be favourably considered.
