This role is based in our new Soho Place office – opened in 2023 - in the heart of Central London and home to our Research Lab.

The role

This role sits within the Security Advisory function and reports to the Security Advisory Manager, working alongside a team of experienced security architects. You’ll play a key part in shaping secure solutions by partnering closely with first-line teams across the business. Embedded within different functions, you’ll help drive positive business outcomes by providing expert security guidance where it matters most.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing detailed technical design advice on relevant business projects and/or programmes of work
  • Assessing the security of in-house and third-party applications, services, infrastructure and processes
  • Making technical security recommendations to improve the security of new or existing applications, services, infrastructure and processes
  • Assisting developers and systems administrators in designing and evaluating secure solutions
  • Reviewing mitigating actions when a design cannot meet security requirements and performing an impact assessment
  • Undertaking heightened threat modelling when required
  • Escalating to the Security Business Partner and/or Head of Security any decisions falling outside of the relevant risk appetite of the board
  • Recognising how security processes can be improved to make G-Research more efficient
  • Continuing to develop a framework to allow an agile and consistent approach to security assessment and design
  • Identifying key audit points to ensure future compliance with internal policy/standards or those that are indicators of compromise
  • Supporting the first line in making appropriate risk management decisions

In addition, the role will continuously engage the first line to embed the three lines of defense approach to security. This will include assisting line one teams in identifying risks to be effectively managed.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will be a capable and hands-on contributor with extensive and demonstrable experience working in security architecture roles. You must be both enthusiastic with a track record of excellence.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Technical cloud security architecture knowledge and experience
  • Practical experience of threat modelling applications, services and infrastructure
  • Experience of red, blue or purple team operations
  • The ability to assimilate complex technical challenges and provide appropriate security advice that delivers the right business outcomes
  • Practical experience reviewing engineering designs and enhancing security solutions against company standards
  • Experience of delivering secure designs or security architecture of large projects and programmes
  • Knowledge and a demonstrable passion for information and technical security, and their technologies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively manage relationships both up and down the organisation
  • Deep technical knowledge with sufficient confidence about security to make fast but justified decisions
