Senior Software Engineer I (Generative AI)

New Today

Overview

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. We are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy across industries including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing. Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility, with autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role: Samsara’s connected operations cloud is a scalable, cloud-connected sensor platform that collects and stores real-time data from a vast network of hardware devices. Our cloud dashboard and mobile app give customers real-time visibility into their fleet and industrial operations, helping them improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Role and team

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of our two teams: Telematics and Sustainability.

• Telematics: process real-time signals from IoT devices in vehicles (e.g., GPS, engine RPM, fuel levels). You’ll own complex features and help build next-generation technology in collaboration with engineers across the team.

• Sustainability: a cross-functional product engineering team that designs and maintains solutions to help customers become more sustainable in fleet operations, spanning web, mobile, and Spark, with collaboration from product managers, designers, and firmware engineers.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the United Kingdom. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product managers, designers, firmware, and infrastructure engineers to design, build, test, and deliver end-to-end products
  • Develop skills and knowledge across multiple technologies; Go, GraphQL, Typescript, JavaScript, React, and React Native are components of our stack. Direct experience with these technologies is not required
  • Solve real-life problems and optimize fleets globally
  • Coach, mentor and guide engineers in the team, supporting your own growth
  • Maintain production systems owned by the team and provide operational support
  • Grow as an engineer in an engineering-first organization with room for progression
  • Participate in on-call rotation and outage investigations within the team’s domain
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles (customer success, long-term thinking, growth mindset, inclusivity, teamwork) as we scale

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Professional experience developing customer-focused products within a team
  • Strong programming fundamentals in Java, Python, Golang, or Javascript
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining large-scale systems
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale application services
  • Ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver on project milestones with your team

An ideal candidate also has

  • Experience with Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar languages
  • Familiarity with multi-tier architectures (React frontends and microservices)
  • Contributed to delivering significant value to customers
  • Curiosity about customers and a desire to improve their day-to-day experience
  • Willingness to iterate on new products based on customer feedback
