AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector.

The Solutions Architect team at AWS helps customers successfully implement cloud technologies. Partnering with internal teams and leveraging a deep knowledge of our tools and products, you’ll craft highly-scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures that address our customers’ business problems.

We are looking for a Senior Solutions Architect to join our Public Sector team to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build mind share and broad use of AWS cloud services within our strategic accounts and owning the on-going technical relationship with customers in the Australian Government community.

The AWS Solutions Architecture team works with the Australian Government and AWS partners on architecting innovative solutions for all our stakeholders. Our work can be highly sensitive, time critical focusing on strategic and operational outcomes. We are passionate about supporting our Public Sector community and will go the extra mile to ensure we achieve successful outcomes. We are consistently challenged with unique and diverse requirements that require out-of-the-box thinking supported by deep technical knowledge.

The broad responsibilities will include owning the technical engagement and ultimate success around specific implementation projects, and developing a deep expertise in the AWS technologies as well as broad knowledge of how applications and services are constructed using the AWS platform.

The ideal candidate will possess communication skills that allow them to represent Amazon well within a customer’s environment and drive discussions with senior personnel, as well as a technical background that enables them to easily interact and give guidance to software developers and architects. They should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges.

Candidates must Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Help customers plan their successful cloud journey by solving complex, technical challenges and crafting scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures.
  • Drive technical solutions discussions and dive deep into details with customer teams.
  • Build relationships to understand customers and partners; act as a trusted technical advisor influencing stakeholders from technical teams to executives.
  • Help ensure short-term technology decisions align with long-term goals; accelerate adoption of AWS services.
  • Act as a thought leader in the wider community through educating, sharing best practices, presenting at events, writing white papers and blogs, and running workshops.
  • Shape product direction by gathering customer feedback and collaborating with engineering and service teams.

This role is within the Public Sector Solutions Architecture team, working with public sector customers in the Australian Government, National Security and Defence. You will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build mind share and broad use of Amazon’s services within critical strategic accounts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
  • 7+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience
  • Can take the lead on a complex technical projects, which may require the participation of other teams to deliver.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders or clients
  • Experience architecting or deploying Cloud/Virtualization solutions in enterprise customers
  • Can create proof of concepts, demos, and/or scripts from scratch or leveraging reusable components.
  • Experience in working with Federal government
  • Able to present to technical and business audiences (training, workshops, publications)
