Location: London (Hybrid: Westminster, London – 2 days in the office)

Contract: 6 Month FTC (until April 2026), 35 hours per week

Salary: £28,000 per year + London Weighting Allowance (LWA) £3,954

About the role

The Social Media Officer is responsible for developing innovative social content and engaging with our community across social media platforms to build Blue Cross’s reputation, drive engagement with our services and campaigns, and raise income for the charity. You will moderate social conversations and help ensure a positive relationship between Blue Cross and our audience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Blue Cross’s social media accounts across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, TikTok and other emerging platforms with a focus on community management and moderation.
  • Oversee third‑party moderation to ensure consistent representation of Blue Cross.
  • Maintain a bank of responses and collaborate with Customer Care, Media, Public Affairs and other teams to respond to customers and build our reputation.
  • Produce regular social media reports with insights on moderation and trends to optimise our approach.
  • Create content that highlights pet stories and rehoming appeals, liaising with local centres, internal teams and adopters.
  • Work with the Senior Social Media Officer to brainstorm, develop content, write scripts and schedule content, and respond to topical issues.

About you

You are a proactive, creative communicator with strong organisational skills and attention to detail. You should be audience‑focussed, able to write warm, on‑brand content, and know when to respond quickly or escalate. You will collaborate across teams to develop activities and solutions, and have a passion for pet welfare.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in social media moderation and managing large communities.
  • Experience using social media account management tools (e.g., Meta Business Manager, Sprout Social).
  • Understanding of social media analytics and extracting insights from listening platforms.
  • Experience in crisis management and cross‑team collaboration for complex queries.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and understanding of what works for our audiences.
  • Experience developing and implementing audience‑focused content and content plans across channels.
  • Strong multimedia skills, including Canva.
  • Substantial experience in digital communications (in‑house or agency; preferably charity).
  • Experience of communicating with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with online influencers and partners.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems.
  • Understanding of wider digital marketing tools and techniques including paid advertising.
  • Understanding of web analytics.
