About The Role

The Senior Software Developer will be a key member of the Digital and Data technology team at FCDO Services, working at the forefront of digital innovation to support government clients. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining secure, high-quality software solutions tailored to the needs of government operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with clients, users, and cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and security. Responsibilities include developing complex web applications, analyzing data requirements, evaluating technical solutions, and performing system maintenance. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and a strong technical background in software development within secure enterprise environments.

Qualifications

• Relevant practical experience or Agile and ITIL Foundation level qualifications
• Microsoft role-based certification
• Strong knowledge of database concepts, architectures, and software
• Understanding of object and data modeling techniques and design principles
• Proficiency in relevant programming languages
• Experience working in secure enterprise environments
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills
• Subject matter expertise in key technologies, tools, or products (desirable)
• Experience with ITIL3 environments (desirable)

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and document large software programs and modifications based on supplied specifications
• Collaborate with clients and users to develop complex web pages and interfaces
• Analyze data requirements to establish or modify object and data models
• Evaluate technical solutions and demonstrate, install, and commission selected products
• Utilize application management software to monitor performance and ensure targets are met
• Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of specific technical specialisms and advise on their application
• Estimate project costs, timescales, and resource requirements
• Contribute to the development of innovative solutions supporting government digital transformation
