Role

Software Engineering Manager — London, Manchester or Hampshire (2 days per week)

We’re looking for a Software Engineering Manager for a long-standing client in the financial services industry. You’ll lead a talented product engineering team, guiding them to deliver solutions that are reliable, secure, and beautifully designed. You’ll be the bridge between vision and delivery, translating strategy into software that really makes a difference.

This role is about more than technical delivery; it’s about people, purpose, and progress. You’ll coach and mentor engineers, champion best practices, and create a culture that’s curious, collaborative, and commercially smart.

You’ll partner with product, design, and third-party suppliers to solve complex technical challenges, reduce technical debt, and deliver engineering excellence at pace. From shaping architectural discussions to embedding automation and quality standards, your leadership will ensure the team builds with scalability, performance, and security in mind.

You’ll also drive initiatives to improve how the team works—making systems more resilient, processes more efficient, and teams more empowered. Above all, you’ll help build technology that serves customers better, manages risk responsibly, and meets business goals with innovation and integrity at its core.

What you’ll bring

You’re a hands-on leader with deep technical roots and a real passion for people. You know how to get the best from engineers and guide them through complex projects in a way that’s inspiring, structured, and sustainable.

You’ll likely have:

  • Experience leading engineering teams, ideally within financial services or a regulated environment.
  • A strong grasp of cloud-native systems, modern SDLC, CI/CD, and software design.
  • Experience across software, data, quality, and platform engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Finova or Apprivo 2 is a real advantage.
  • A collaborative approach to risk and compliance, balancing innovation with control.
  • A genuine interest in new technologies, automation, and ways to make teams work smarter.
  • You don’t just manage—you mentor, inspire, and bring out the best in others. You understand that great engineering is about people as much as it is about code.

Why this role?

You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing engineering function, influence product direction, and lead initiatives with real impact across the business. It’s a role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, loves a challenge, and wants to leave a lasting mark on how technology is built and delivered.

There are 4 offices across the UK and whichever is closest will be your hub; expect some travel as teams are distributed. It is best for this role to be based out of Manchester or London, but Hampshire is also available. You will be required in the office 2 days per week.
