LOCATION: Glasgow – Pacific Quay | CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time | DEPARTMENT: BBC Product Group - Bitesize | SALARY: £75,000 - £85,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Responsibilities and Impact The role of a Software Engineering Team Lead is a hybrid role, combining expert technical knowledge with leadership of a software engineering team and management of engineers day-to-day and their careers. You will guide engineering approaches and best practices, work with other engineering leaders, and ensure delivery of high-quality, sustainable solutions that meet user needs. You will support the Glasgow team in developing critical features and capabilities, mentor engineers, and collaborate with discipline leads and editorial stakeholders.
People: Recruit, mentor, coach and manage staff; assure the quality of their work and professional development. Environment: Create an inclusive, positive culture; collaborate with department leaders to align teams and maintain continuity across disciplines. Technical Expertise: Improve software, share knowledge, and enhance processes and practices across the technical community. User Focus: Deliver solutions that meet the needs of students, teachers and parents using the product.
Essential Criteria YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Track record of growing engineers with a focus on mentoring, coaching and development. Experience of building user-facing accessible front-end products using technologies such as React, Typescript, NodeJS. Experience building APIs and Back-end services using AWS technologies (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, CloudFormation). Ability to manage multiple product and technical priorities with practical decision making in a collaborative cross-disciplinary team. Experience in measuring, shaping and improving agile practices to ensure continuous delivery.
Desirable
Experience working on large mono-repo products backed by design systems. Experience leading a team's approach to operational stability and incident management. Experience with experimentation and data-driven decision making.
