Are you a qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing) looking to start your career or make the move to our forward-thinking Dorset 0-19 Public Health Team? We highly value the contribution that the Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) makes to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families, using evidence-based, early intervention strategies. This role is in the Dorchester and West Dorset locality within the 0-19 CYP Public Health Team based in Dorchester. This is a permanent part-time post of 30 hours per week, year round with no weekend working, some hybrid working and flexibility with hours. Travel across Dorchester and West Dorset is required, and you will be present within teams and schools alike.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in the School Nursing core programme, underpinned by the Healthy Child Programme and high impact areas; work in partnership with children, young people and families, the Local Authority, Early Intervention Services, Children’s Services, Schools and other Health Care providers.
  • Manage members of the 0-19 team, delegating within the skill mix team and sharing knowledge and skills across the 0-19 team.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist interventions and packages of care for people on an allocated caseload; promote independence and autonomy; work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Advance own clinical knowledge, skill and competence based on current evidence through advanced educational programmes.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form in the exchange of highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information in difficult situations using de-escalation, mediation, resolution and professional Duty of Candour.
  • Adhere to the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) requirements and participate in related checks as required.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) or equivalent professional registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) – School Nursing.
  • Ability to travel across Dorchester and West Dorset and work with schools and multidisciplinary teams.
