Role: Were looking for a Squad Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud Resilience team, a critical squad within our engineering organisation responsible for the core infrastructure that powers our cloud-native investment platform. This is a hands-on leadership role combining deep technical insight, strong stakeholder engagement, and strategic delivery. Youll be responsible for shaping and delivering the roadmap. Youll also be line managing the engineers in your squad, supporting their growth, career development, and wellbeing, and helping shape the future team through recruitment and onboarding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and line manage a team of skilled engineers, supporting their personal and professional growth, providing regular feedback and career development guidance, and driving team hiring, onboarding, and retention.
  • Own and drive the roadmap for your squad, working with stakeholders to define problems, prioritise work, and align delivery to business and platform goals.
  • Represent your team in quarterly planning, clearly communicating goals, trade-offs, and rationale behind prioritisation.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure platform resilience, security, and observability are considered in all system design and delivery.
  • Lead incident response, own production readiness, and embed best practices for monitoring, alerting, and fault tolerance.
  • Guide architectural outcomes and contribute to key implementations, particularly in areas related to infrastructure automation, cloud reliability, and developer tooling.
  • Champion the use of Terraform, Datadog, and AWS-native tooling to manage infrastructure, observability, and runtime environments.
  • Measure and improve key platform metrics uptime, latency, cost-efficiency, incident resolution time, and platform usability.

Qualifications / You should have

  • You're a strong engineering leader with experience building and running resilient cloud platforms, and you enjoy leading teams that sit at the intersection of infrastructure and product.
  • You're a pragmatic software engineer comfortable with JavaScript/TypeScript but also open to other languages like Go or Python.
  • You take a product mindset to platform work: engaging with stakeholders, framing problems, setting priorities, and communicating trade-offs.
  • You enjoy collaborating across engineering, product, and operations to align goals and ensure platform stability and scalability.
  • You care deeply about operational excellence, automation, and making things reliable, secure, and easy to use.
  • You’ve led or contributed to modern cloud-native environments and are fluent in AWS best practices, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and monitoring (Datadog).
  • You thrive in an environment where you’re empowered to define direction, drive delivery, and represent your teams work to the wider business.
  • You want to be part of a company on a mission to transform investment infrastructure through thoughtful technology and strong engineering culture.

Not for you if

  • You rely on a lot of top-down direction. You’ll have freedom and ownership of your role, and you’ll be expected to shape your own progression.
  • You’re not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our speed and scalability are what set us apart; you need to be able to act quickly and think on your feet.
  • You struggle to follow through on ideas. We value people who do what they say they will. If you care about something, you have the freedom here to make it happen.
  • You don’t like change. You’ll get on great here if you relish the ambiguity of rapid growth and are willing to embrace uncertainty.
