Island Studios is a world-renowned film studio complex with locations in West London, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. Island Studios offers filmmakers and photographers access to advanced film production facilities. The company is part of the Panavision Company, a global provider of camera systems, lenses, and accessories. We are looking for an enthusiastic Stage Hand to join our team and support the smooth operation of our busy studios.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with head office, clients, crew, and kitchen staff, serving as a key point of contact to ensure seamless communication.
  • Provide a warm and professional welcome to clients and visitors during shoot days, delivering excellent customer service.
  • Identify potential problems, propose effective solutions, and notify relevant personnel to minimise disruptions.
  • Maintain stages, including thorough cleaning, preparation before and after shoots, and painting cyclorama walls.
  • Inspect stages and supporting areas regularly; identify and report damage to enable swift repairs and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Safely operate plant machinery (including forklifts, scissor lifts, genie booms, and sweepers) following company training protocols.
  • Keep communal areas (coffee bays, hallways, production offices) clean and organised to support a positive environment.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing deliveries and couriers, and assist with equipment collection.
  • Complete necessary reports and job sheets accurately.
  • Maintain clear communication with studio security to ensure premises safety and security.
  • Be on-call as needed to provide flexible support to the team and clients.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Experience in a fast-paced customer-facing role, ideally within a creative studio, film/TV production, events, or similar industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritise in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Positive, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn and contribute to the studio’s success.
  • Valid driver’s license for occasional driving of company vehicles (desirable).
