Overview

The University of London is a leading provider of online, distance learning with a large, diverse student body. The Student Outcomes Team is seeking to recruit a Student Progress Coordinator (12 months FTC – maternity cover) to work with the Student Progress Manager on developing and implementing processes for student engagement initiatives to improve retention and outcomes. The role supports distance-learning programmes; it requires innovation and adaptability to engage different student groups.

The post-holder will identify and contact students who need support, help remove roadblocks to continuation, and apply a test-and-learn approach to engagement at individual and group levels. Duties will focus on improving student retention and may evolve as new activities are rolled out.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with establishing processes to identify students at high risk of disengagement or dropping out and define criteria for risk assessment.
  • Collaborate to address challenges within the university’s influence that may hinder student progress.
  • Identify and contact students who need support and help remove barriers to continued study.
  • Engage students using a flexible, innovative approach suitable for distance-learning cohorts; adapt activities to different student groups as needed.
  • Contribute to day-to-day duties that may change as new engagement and retention activities are rolled out.

Requirements

  • Experience or ability to develop and implement processes to support student engagement and retention.
  • Ability to work in a distance-learning context and adapt approaches for different student groups.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with student services and programme teams.
  • Willingness to adopt a “test and learn” approach to student engagement.
