We are looking for Lead Technical Architects experienced in application design, who are confident working on products and services in a complex digital environment. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and oversee the architecture of IT solutions that improve services for millions of DWP users.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across DWP Digital to support the delivery of solutions, creating options and recommendations for governance boards and providing expert advice to inform major technology choices.
  • Lead the design, oversight and architecture governance of IT solutions that support DWP customers and help colleagues be at their most effective.
  • Work with engineers and other experts in multi‑disciplinary teams to create efficient solution designs that meet user needs.
  • Ensure technical quality and alignment of product designs with DWP’s Digital Blueprint, Enterprise Architecture and Product Roadmaps.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Architecture design across on‑prem, cloud and hybrid environments involving networking, security, presentation, middleware, database, and integration aspects.
  • Architecture design informed by principles, patterns, technical radars, practices and standards.
  • Experience designing architecture within agile, waterfall and hybrid delivery lifecycles from concept to go‑live.
  • Translating business requirements into technical solutions with traceability demonstrable to stakeholders.
  • Architecture modelling techniques and tools to devise and represent designs.
  • Microservice and API‑led architecture and integration design best practices.
  • Event‑based architecture design and patterns (pub‑sub, data streaming) across multiple domains in private data centres and public clouds.

  • Location: Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield (hybrid model).
  • Pay: up to £99,836, comprising salary and Government Digital & Data allowance.
  • Pension: employer contributions worth 28.97% (over £21,735 per year).
  • Holidays: 26 days rising to 31 days with service, plus up to 3 extra flexi days per month & public holidays.
