Technical Lead

An experienced Technical Lead is required to join a small, fast-moving product team building API-driven platforms that power mobile payments, loyalty systems, and integrations across retail, fuel, and hospitality.

This is a hands-on role working directly with senior leadership, where you'll take ownership of cloud services from design through to deployment. You'll design and deliver scalable AWS solutions, develop secure APIs, and integrate with third-party systems.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, building, and maintaining Go microservices and APIs for web and mobile apps.
  • Delivering secure and resilient systems with AWS-native services (Lambda, ECS, S3, API Gateway, SNS/SQS).
  • Building event-driven and serverless solutions where they make sense.
  • Integrating with payment platforms and external APIs.
  • Containerising and deploying services with Docker for consistent environments.
  • Managing infrastructure and automating deployments with CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines).
  • Collaborating with frontend/mobile engineers to shape APIs and boost performance.
  • Monitoring and optimising production systems.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years' backend engineering experience delivering production APIs and services.
  • Strong AWS knowledge - IAM, VPCs, subnets, load balancers, storage (S3), messaging (SNS/SQS), data stores.
  • Proficiency in Go, or strong experience in Java / C# / Rust with willingness to transition into Go.
  • Strong background in secure, scalable cloud systems and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Comfortable working independently in a small, startup-style environment.
  • Familiarity with Docker.
  • Experience mentoring or leading projects.

Nice to have

  • Background in payments or POS integrations.
  • Experience with Java/.NET for legacy support.
  • Knowledge of OAuth/JWT and API security.
  • Exposure to event-driven or serverless architectures.
