Your impact

As a Traffic Signal Engineer or Senior Traffic Signal Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across our Aviation, Rail and Technology group. You’ll be part of the design and delivery of traffic signal projects, ensuring technical excellence and safety in design. Whether you're designing junctions, implementing intelligent transport systems (ITS), or leading technical delivery, your work will directly impact how communities move and connect. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that improve road safety, reduce congestion, and support active travel initiatives.

At the senior level, you’ll also mentor junior engineers, lead project delivery, and liaise with clients to ensure technical excellence and stakeholder satisfaction. Your leadership will help shape the future of traffic signal design and contribute to a more connected, low-carbon transport network.

Jacobs partners with major clients and works on internationally ambitious infrastructure projects, including opportunities within National Highways, Transport Scotland, the Welsh Government, and local authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver innovative and sustainable traffic signal solutions across our Aviation, Rail and Technology group.
  • Design and deliver traffic signal projects, ensuring technical excellence and safety in design.
  • Design junctions, implement ITS, lead technical delivery, and contribute to road safety, congestion reduction, and active travel initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers, lead project delivery, and liaise with clients to ensure technical excellence and stakeholder satisfaction (Senior level).

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/C in Civil, Electrical, or Transport Engineering (or related field).
  • Experience using AutoCAD, LinSig, MOVA, and other traffic modelling tools.
  • Experience designing and reviewing traffic signal schemes from feasibility to implementation for Senior position.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers for Senior position.
  • Familiarity with health and safety legislation and CDM regulations.
  • Knowledge of relevant design standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
