Overview

Join to apply for the 2026 Graduate Programme - Energy - Transition role at WSP

We are recruiting graduates for our Energy Transition team, with opportunities across the UK and overseas in a leading Engineering and Professional Advisory services consultancy. You will work in a collaborative environment on a diverse range of projects and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Work on exciting and innovative projects across the UK and overseas in specialist services including Thermal Transition to Renewable Energy.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, technical and environmental issue analysis, engineering design, process modelling and construction management.
  • Support long-term operational management services where applicable.
  • Participate in project delivery across multi-disciplinary energy projects (e.g., carbon capture, hydrogen, wind, solar, storage, and gas networks).
  • Assist in proposal development, client interactions, site visits and preparation of project documentation and 3D models.
  • Develop mechanical deliverables, piping design, plant layouts, and structural design work (steel and concrete).

Projects and teams

Energy Transition teams deliver multi-disciplinary services to help clients achieve a net zero future. Projects include:

  • Carbon capture plant integration with existing plants (e.g., CCGT, waste to energy).
  • Green hydrogen generation plant design (e.g., PEM hydrogen).
  • New CCGT plants and upgrades to gas networks.
  • Pipelines routing studies, electrical and gas distribution design, and solar PV/battery storage projects.
  • Onshore wind foundations and energy projects in the UK and overseas.

Energy Transition includes two main streams:

  • Thermal Transition — decarbonising from thermal power to renewables including wind/solar, carbon capture, and energy distribution, across the UK’s electricity, gas, hydrogen, and CCS sectors. Day-to-day activities include designing and reviewing mechanical and process deliverables, creating 3D models, and site interactions.
  • Renewable Power Generation — offshore/onshore wind, solar, and battery storage; advising on whole-life costs and project life cycle; activities include design, delivery, client engagement, and proposals.

Graduate Development Programme

Two-year programme focused on personal and professional development with blended learning, workshops, mentoring for professional registration, and on-the-job experience. Details are available via the Graduate brochure/website.

What We Will Be Looking For

  • Graduation with at least a 2:2 in a master’s degree in a relevant subject.
  • Ability to start in April or September 2026.
  • Passion for consulting and an interest in structural engineering and design.
  • Creativity, problem-solving drive, and the ability to work with stakeholders in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to align experience with opportunities across the graduate programme.

Applicants should complete the application form in full and pass an online skill enabler assessment. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; early applications are encouraged.
