Overview

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director (Fire Engineer). This is a consultancy-based role requiring demonstrable experience in a range of sectors and technical fire engineering applications within a client-focused environment. You will oversee and develop a team of fire engineers, with developmental experience in a professional position.

This position is well suited to an established consultant looking to advance in a multidisciplinary design consultancy and join a respected fire safety practice.

What you’ll do

People

  • Lead and manage the team in terms of workload management, project delivery and performance.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of projects within the Middle East region, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national leadership to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to the highest standard of quality.
  • Lead Performance & Review processes by setting and monitoring SMART goals for team members.
  • Carry out staff appraisals of direct reports and ensure consistency across levels in line with AECOM Performance & Review processes.
  • Participate in developing professional development plans and encourage expansion of staff expertise across sectors.
  • Assist in training and mentoring staff to ensure technical development in line with PDPs.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and designs across the Middle East portfolio.
  • Support and mentor less experienced staff on the path to Chartership.

Projects

  • Provide estimates for fire engineering budgets and schedules for large, complex projects.
  • Lead project delivery on mid to large-size projects nationally and internationally.
  • Lead strategic project direction as AEOCM Approved Lead Verifier and act as project approver where applicable.
  • Lead technical client relationships and play a major role in attracting new work and clients.
  • Ensure the quality of work is maintained and delivered to the client within agreed timeframes and budgets.

Business

  • Ensure implementation of AECOM Health & Safety policies at workplace and on site visits.
  • Maintain good client working relationships and promote the Fire Engineering business to support growth.
  • Support the national team in achieving KPIs and contribute to recruitment and marketing strategies within the Southern Fire team.
  • Contribute to the Fire Team Business Plan and implement it across the team.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in a large, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Middle Eastern standards (NFPA, IBC, IFC, UAE Fire Code, Saudi Building Code, Qatar Civil Defence Guidelines, and other local regulations).
  • Proficiency with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFS, and evacuation modelling software.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., MI Fire) and/or NFPA certifications (e.g., CFPE).

Preferred:

  • UK or other nationalities considered; security clearance is a plus.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institute of Fire Engineering.
  • Extensive experience with FDS, evacuation modelling, and structural fire safety engineering.
  • MSc or PhD in a fire-related discipline and international experience with IBC, SFPE, NFPA.
