This role is aligned to the Agenda for Change NHS Pay scale (Band 6).

Starting salary for full-time use is £38,638 with the opportunity for progression to £46,581 over 5 years, subject to successful performance reviews and achievement of objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Extract, analyse and present complex data to internal and external customers.
  • Tailor data outputs to diverse audiences and provide advice and insight to support business decisions.
  • Deliver analytical products to support management information reporting and maintain the reporting suite that delivers quality information.
  • Absorb technical information quickly and pay attention to detail.
  • Handle large datasets with data cleaning, processing, analysis and data visualisation.
  • Develop systems to collate, analyse and retain quality management information (MI).
  • Produce high-quality reports and dashboards to support business needs; ensure notes and definitions are reviewed and updated; use data to provide customer insight and feedback to drive improvements.
  • Conduct advanced analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data to support decision making; make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies for services and external customers.
  • Use business tools to interrogate, analyse and present data effectively.
  • Determine appropriate methodologies to analyse, investigate and resolve complex analytical queries.
  • Communicate complex data clearly to technical and non-technical audiences; ensure accessibility and high standards of information.
  • Plan and organise workload; manage activities or projects requiring formulation or adjustment.
  • Deliver timely and targeted reports; analyse trends, provide appropriate statistical methods and forecasts; provide commentary for quality information.
  • Produce fully documented information and analysis for routine and ad hoc reports to senior management and other business areas; handle FOI requests, Parliamentary Questions and Subject Access Requests with governance.
  • Provide analyses to support development and refinement of metrics and reports; highlight trends, outliers and risks.
  • Represent the organisation as a data/business expert with internal and external customers; provide ad-hoc support as needed.
  • Maintain and adapt the web-based electronic reporting system in line with customer requirements.
  • Support training and advice on the use and understanding of quality information.
  • Ensure data integrity and quality of all reports and information requests in collaboration with business experts and statisticians.
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of customers to define and develop new information products and support target monitoring work.
  • Automate tasks where appropriate; participate in user acceptance testing for information systems.
  • Undertake periodic validation checks of performance and management data.
  • Work flexibly with colleagues to understand service complexities; support long and short-term planning; align with GROW principles.
  • Fulfill line manager duties including appraisals, performance reviews, disciplinaries and authorising expenses; lead by example and uphold NHSBSA values.
  • Undertake other duties as required commensurate with grade, training and experience.
  • Support the build and delivery of a Data Strategy.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Pays attention to detail; adaptable and a proactive team player with initiative.
  • Able to absorb technical information quickly and work on multiple activities in a changing environment.
  • Capable of delivering within stringent deadlines; good organisational skills.
  • Analytical and logical problem-solving; able to interpret highly complex data and advise actions based on options.
  • Able to interrogate databases to obtain data for analysis; able to present information to varied audiences.
  • Proficient with database, statistical, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation IT packages; able to produce complex and sensitive reports.
  • Accurate and able to prioritise own workload; able to work independently within established parameters.
  • Confident at data analysis and presenting information; able to communicate complicated issues clearly.

Desirable

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office; data reporting tools and web-based reporting tools.
  • Able to identify and act on future needs and opportunities; advanced Power BI skills.

Experience

Essential

  • In-depth specialist knowledge of information and quality analysis through relevant qualifications or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Experience in data collection, validation and analysis within a business reporting environment.
  • Experience in resolving complex queries and providing actionable insights from data; experience creating dashboards.

Desirable

  • Experience within the NHS or large organisations; handling sensitive data.

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as data analysis or demonstrated equivalent experience or further education.
