Data Architect – Medallion Data Lake QA

WPP Media is a global media collective dedicated to building innovative solutions that transform marketing through data and technology. We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to design and guard the next‑generation media data lake on Microsoft Azure.

Role Summary

The Data Architect will architect the end‑to‑end data lake, establish quality assurance processes, enforce data governance, and collaborate with engineering and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, high‑quality data.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document the media data lake architecture on Azure, adhering to the medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) framework.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive quality assurance strategies, test plans, and automated testing for data pipelines.
  • Define and enforce data quality standards, metrics, and validation routines across all lake layers.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to integrate QA practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Establish data modeling, governance, security, and master data management policies focused on quality assurance.
  • Recommend and select appropriate Azure services (Data Lake Storage, Synapse, Data Factory, Purview) that meet architectural and quality requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into robust architectural designs and testable solutions.
  • Provide architectural guidance to ensure adherence to design principles and quality standards.
  • Maintain architecture and QA documentation and evaluate new technologies to enhance practices.
  • Champion data quality assurance processes and master data management principles.
  • Ensure designs comply with data privacy regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Mid‑Senior level experience with Microsoft Azure data services (Data Lake Storage, Synapse, Data Factory, Purview).
  • Deep experience designing and implementing medallion data lake architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of data warehousing and big data technologies (Spark, distributed systems).
  • Proficiency in data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical) and data quality frameworks.
  • Proven QA strategy experience: test plans, automated testing for data pipelines and stores.
  • Experience in data governance, data security, and quality tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
