CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed -term, Full-time - 6 months

LOCATION: BBC Television Centre, London, UK - Hybrid working

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £54,000-£86,300 plus London Weighting depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We’re seeking a dynamic Development Executive to help shape the next chapter of our Specialist Factual Productions unit - renowned for producing premium, critically acclaimed history and cultural content.

This role will play a key part in driving our expanding slate of talent-led projects in the premium space. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in both generating ambitious ideas and delivering high-quality decks and proposals.

We will only consider candidates with previous on-screen talent-led development skills at Development Executive level as a minimum in the specialist factual development sphere so please do not apply if you do not have this experience.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Collaborate closely with the Head of Development and Creative Director to originate and develop exciting, diverse, and talent-led projects and boundary-pushing stories.

• Bring a proven track record of securing commissions, not only for UK broadcasters but also for global streamers such as Netflix, National Geographic, Sky Documentaries, A+E, Amazon, and Apple.

• Able to confidently deliver world-class decks, treatments, and pitch materials from original concept through to commission.

• Apply strong journalistic instincts and research skills, with a proven ability to produce well-crafted, engaging decks, treatments, and proposals.

• Proactively identify and develop new on-screen talent, build relationships with agents and talent managers, and collaborate effectively with BBC Studios’ existing talent network.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Demonstrable experience in developing premium factual series and singles for both UK broadcasters and global streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon, History Channel, Disney+, and Apple TV.

• A proven track record of working collaboratively with talent, and a strong ability to originate innovative talent-led ideas - from crafting vehicles for internationally renowned on-screen names to identifying and nurturing exciting emerging talent.

• The ability to produce clear, concise, and compelling treatments and taster tapes under tight deadlines to support successful commissions.

• Demonstrate strong market awareness across the domestic and international television landscape.

• Collaborative mindset with experience working across departments, talent networks, and international markets.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• A minimum of 5 credits at Development Executive level in talent-led specialist factual development for UK and global broadcaster and streamer markets.

• Demonstratable examples of writing well-written specialist factual treatments for premium buyers.

• Demonstrate market awareness and of commissioning trends across the domestic and international television landscape.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

• Existing relationships with global commissioning teams and streamer executives.

• Existing relationships with on-screen talent and network of agencies and managers.

• Experience in guiding, supporting, and mentoring more junior team members, encouraging their contribution to idea generation and development.
