Overview

Director of Software Engineering at Capital One – London, United Kingdom. Lead a team of 100+ engineers, partner with business leaders, and drive technical rigour across multiple outcome teams to deliver business outcomes.

What you’ll do

  • Provide leadership of a team of 100+ technologists (Software Engineers, Quality Engineers and Architects) delivering engineering at scale in a complex regulated environment
  • Collaborate with Product and Design teams on the overall product roadmap for key business capabilities and goals
  • Elevate talent and define development agendas; actively manage performance to grow the team
  • Drive effective delivery with pace and accuracy across outcome teams
  • Engage enterprise stakeholders, including US-based partners, and assess cost and risk trade-offs for different solutions
  • Manage a team with a mix of associates and third-party engineers and oversee relevant third parties within the domain
  • Share the wider organisation’s context to align the team with customer and organisational outcomes
  • Stay up to date with relevant regulatory changes and enterprise processes
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest technologies and engineering practices
  • Be a key voice in technical design reviews with clear engineering practices
  • Support the career growth and development of the team

What we’re looking for

  • A clear track record of leading large software engineering teams and driving high performance
  • Ability to solve complex challenges across people, process and technology; comfortable with ambiguity; capable of evaluating technology options and recommending a path forward
  • Excellent critical thinking and the ability to counsel leaders across the business
  • Passion for recruiting and developing engineering talent
  • Ability to deliver results quickly while enabling others through clear patterns and practices
  • Excellent communication skills; able to engage diverse audiences including internal and external stakeholders
  • Awareness of AWS native developments and real-world experience
  • Understanding of cybersecurity trends and their impact on engineering practice
  • Ability to work within enterprise policies while tailoring to UK requirements
  • Ability to balance short-term and long-term business needs
  • Knowledge of UK/US regulatory, consumer lending, and technology landscapes (preferred)

Where and how you’ll work

This is a permanent position based in our London offices. We have a hybrid working model with in-office three days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays).
