This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape and drive transformational change across the School, which has recently become a standalone unit outside the Faculty structures. You will act as a trusted advisor to the Dean and a key member of the School leadership team. You will lead planning, operational delivery, and strategic alignment with University-wide initiatives, as part of the Planning, Projects & Operations leadership team. With a focus on continuous improvement, partnership working, and data-informed decision-making, this role is ideal for a forward-thinking professional ready to influence the future of higher education in a collaborative and ambitious environment.The Director of Strategy & Operations provides a critical role in the interface between the Business School and University-wide functional teams and for supporting and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the University.You will play a key role in ensuring effective partnership working between the Faculty and the Professional Services teams that work to support the business of the School, to ensure a high level of service provision. You will be a trusted senior advisor to the Dean and a key member of the School leadership team.Your approach will be considerate, persuasive and engaging, with the ability to bring people with you, ensuring strategic alignment and transformational change. The ability to analyse data, distil and communicate relevant information and its context to Faculty leaders is an important aspect of this role.## Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post* Supporting the Dean, and School Leadership Team, in effective planning, decision- making, and identification of strategic opportunities, including the development and implementation of strategic plans, ensuring these align with the wider University strategies especially the Delivering 2030 strategies and planning cycles;* Responsible for the development and delivery of plans associated with resources in the School;* Leading the School’s administrative and support functions (Faculty Services), setting standards of performance by motivating staff with appropriate delegation and empowerment to achieve School objectives, underpinned by high quality performance;* Promoting and advancing partnerships and collaborative working at strategic and operational level between the School and Professional Services, which support the facilitation and coordination of service delivery;* Manage accreditation requirement processes, including sourcing data/information and resources to effectively submit and respond to any queries, questions and feedback (key interfaces being with Strategy & Insight; Academic Services and the University Secretary, Registrar & Chief Compliance Officer);* Developing and maintaining relationships with other DSOs throughout the University to ensure a consistent level of service and to enable communities of practice related to management of School operation;* Working collaboratively with local leaders to develop strategic school plans, critically evaluating plans associated with research, teaching and knowledge exchange and associated target setting to deliver the 2030 University Strategy;* Working collaboratively with the Dean and the School leadership team to agree with Professional services stakeholders, relevant KPI’s, benchmarking, forecasting, SLA’s. Using this information critically evaluate suitable interventions to deliver University strategy ensuring best practice across all faculties;* Working with the Dean and School leadership team to proactively plan, develop and maintain an appropriate risk management approach across the faculty especially in a critical incident situation;* Lead and/or undertake projects and initiatives as part of University-wide teams focused on continuous improvement opportunities;* Modelling and encouraging behaviours aligned to the development and maintenance of a culture that is inclusive, flexible and encourages excellence;* Maintaining a close understanding of the external environment in which the School and University operate, including current and emerging policy developments within the Higher Education sector, their impact upon strategy, and identifying practical solutions to these challenges, and networking with external and peer bodies as appropriate to enhance that knowledge and understanding;* Compiling, interrogating and interpreting complex and diverse information and datasets and producing succinct, evidence-based reports, providing options and recommendations where required to contribute to strategic decision making;* Building and maintaining relationships with external bodies relevant to the School e.g. funding bodies, statutory organisations, commercial partners, other institutions;* Lead and develop operational oversight of the School especially in relation to governance associated with Schools eg Health & Safety compliance and managing non pay budgets at a School levelFor an informal discussion about the role, please contact Sam Bayley, Executive Director - Planning, Projects and Operations.
