The Environment Agency is seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. You will provide strategic leadership for financial investigations and ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You will work proactively to continually improve how we operate.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the ECU and the management of two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
- Lead and develop your team, manage performance and ensure delivery of work.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC).
- Influence senior stakeholders to ensure Environment Agency priorities are supported by external enforcement partners.
- Support the wider organisation in improving processes and understanding POCA; share lessons learned and advise other enforcement officers.
- Work with two dispersed teams of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts; understand and tackle serious, complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team. The teams include Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts; the unit operates across the country to tackle major criminality.
Experience/skills Required
- Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team.
- Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
- Experience in:
- Working in the law enforcement sector with an understanding of the National Intelligence Model
- Effective communication, delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders
- Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
- Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
- Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals
Contact and additional information
This is a hybrid role; you will work from home and your nearest office, with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a core part of the role, with possible additional payments. Training and workplace adjustments are available.
