Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
This role will require you to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, influence at a senior level, and continually improve the way we work and apply the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
Responsibilities
- Lead the ECU and provide strategic direction for financial investigations under POCA.
- Manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; provide strong leadership, development, and performance management.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) and influence senior stakeholders to align with EA priorities.
- Support the wider organisation in improving processes, increase understanding of POCA, share lessons learned, and input into changes to technical documentation; advise other enforcement officers nationally.
- Contribute to the team’s composition and capability, ensuring delivery of work and continual improvement.
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team – with Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience / Skills Required
- Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team; good understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
- Experience in the following areas:
- Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
- Communicating effectively, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
- Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
- Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
- Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it
