Overview

Broster Buchanan are delighted to have been retained by a growing Northampton based Private Equity backed business who are looking to recruit a Financial Controller, on a permanent basis. Reporting into a highly skilled, engaging Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the full finance function, from day-to-day financial operations to high-level financial strategy. The role blends technical accounting, commercial finance, and cross-functional support (e.g. HR, operations, legal), providing vital insight and control as the business scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the preparation of monthly management accounts, KPIs and variance analysis
  • Lead statutory reporting and liaise with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, HMRC regulations, and other relevant financial standards
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Manage VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax filings with advisors as needed

Commercial Finance & Strategic Support

  • Partner with business leaders to support commercial decision-making (e.g. pricing, margin analysis, new product/service launches)
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling activities
  • Provide insight into business performance and support strategic planning
  • Analyse trends, risks and opportunities to inform decision-making

Cash & Working Capital Management

  • Monitor and manage cash flow forecasting and treasury functions
  • Oversee credit control and supplier payment processes
  • Work closely with banks and other financial institutions as needed

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Lead finance systems and process improvement projects to enhance efficiency
  • Implement automation where possible (e.g. reporting tools, payment systems)
  • Act as finance lead for ERP or finance software upgrades or integrations

Leadership & Cross-Functional Involvement

  • Manage and develop a small finance team
  • Provide ad hoc support to HR, legal, IT, or operational areas depending on business needs
  • Act as a business partner to non-finance departments

Qualifications

The successful Candidate will be a Professionally Qualified individual, with a minimum of 3 years PQE. They will possess demonstrable experience managing the end-to-end finance function in a small or medium-sized business, strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax compliance, as well as some exposure to commercial finance, cost analysis, and business partnering. Experience with system upgrades or finance process transformation would be desirable.

From a personal perspective, Candidates will bring excellent communication skills, a proactive, adaptable attitude, and a hands-on approach. They will have a commercial awareness, and an interest in broader business operations.

Remuneration & Terms

Our Client is offering a Salary of £70,000 - £75,000 + 10% Bonus + Benefits, including Hybrid Working (3 Days Office, 2 Days WFH)
