Overview

Drax Executive have been retained by a market leading Retail business to secure a Group Financial Controller, reporting directly into the CFO.

This is a key strategic hire for this £500m Revenue / £44m EBITDA market leading brand as they continue their successful growth journey within both the UK and relevant international markets.

They are looking for a proven Group Financial Controller with a track record of developing internal accounting processes, an innovative approach and an aptitude for technology.

You will have excellent leadership skills with the ability to develop a high performing finance function, whilst collaborating closely and offering key strategic support to the broader finance leadership team and Board.

Exposure to a Retail, FMCG, Manufacturing or Distribution environment would be hugely advantageous.

You will be a visible leader at their Manchester HQ with an expectation of circa 3 days per week in the office.

The Role

This mandate offers a very broad and interesting remit, where you will have the opportunity to build on a strong foundation and to add immense value to the evolution and efficiency of the finance function.

You will have regular and key engagement with the CFO, Senior Non-Finance Stakeholders and the Board and Investors providing a strategic and commercial approach to Controllership.

The position requires someone with a ‘hands on’ approach and who will remain in the detail, whilst leading and up-skilling the broader Controllership team.

Key responsibilities

  • Reporting directly into the CFO, you will be overseeing a Teams of 20 with 3 direct reports.
  • Responsibility for the month end close process and technical consolidation of the group’s monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Management of the Group’s ERPs and consolidation system, driving continuous improvement and owning system maintenance and strategic development of the finance IT stack.
  • Key role in building and continuous development of financial processes and governance across the group.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong internal controls to ensure financial integrity and compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Management and mentoring of the finance team, fostering a high-performing and motivated culture that drives excellence and efficiency.
  • Management of the group audit process, being the key contact for group auditors.
  • Support the CFO with ad-hoc project work as required.

The Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant (ideally ACA or ACCA) – Audit Trained would be preferable but is not a pre-requisite.
  • Proven track record of developing and leading sizeable teams of 15 plus.
  • Exposure to finance transformation projects and leading on the development and efficiency of internal controls and processes.
  • An aptitude for systems and exposure to the development on internal financial systems.
  • Exposure to a Retail, FMCG, Manufacturing or Distribution environment would be hugely advantageous.
  • Able to commit to a minimum of 3 days per week at Manchester HQ.
