PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The Head of Events is a senior leadership role, responsible for driving the operational excellence, commercial performance, and client service standards of the Events team. This role leads, mentors, and inspires the operations function to deliver world-class events and brand experiences while ensuring profitability, consistency, and long-term client partnerships. As both a leader and a consultant, the Head of Events fosters a culture of accountability, creativity, and collaboration - ensuring the team goes beyond execution to provide strategic, consultative value to clients.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and inspire the operations team (Including Project Directors, Senior Producers, Producers, and Executives) to achieve their full potential.
- Foster a high-performance culture with clear goals, structured development, and accountability.
- Act as a senior role model, demonstrating strategic thinking, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.
- Encourage innovation and empower the team to drive continuous improvement.
- Operational Excellence
- Drive operational standards, ensuring every event is delivered seamlessly, on time, and on budget.
- Implement best-practice processes, resource planning, and risk management to strengthen efficiency and consistency.
- Maintain responsibility for quality assurance across all projects, setting benchmarks for delivery that exceed client expectations.
- Champion a culture of excellence in service delivery, detail, and creativity.
- Commercial Performance
- Own the commercials of the operations function, ensuring margin targets are consistently achieved and exceeded.
- Provide strategic oversight of budgets, resourcing, and profitability across all projects.
- Build strong supplier partnerships to secure commercial value and long-term cost efficiencies.
- Identify opportunities for growth within accounts and support the business development function by contributing strategic expertise.
- Client Experience & Service
- Lead a consultative approach with clients, positioning the agency as a trusted advisor
- Ensure every client interaction reflects Make Events’ values, ethos, and commitment to outstanding service.
- Drive account growth by fostering long-term relationships, identifying cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.
- Actively contribute to client onboarding, debriefs, and relationship-building at senior levels.
- Industry Influence
- Represent Make Events as a thought leader, building influence and credibility within the industry.
- Identify and attend key networking opportunities, ensuring alignment with agency goals and industry trends.
- Supplier Partnerships & Commercial Value
- Build and nurture strategic supplier partnerships that enhance the quality, creativity, and consistency of delivery.
- Negotiate and secure commercially advantageous agreements that drive margin growth and long-term value for both Make Events and its clients.
- Ensure supplier performance is continually monitored against SLAs, driving accountability and excellence in every partnership.
- Position Make Events as a priority partner of choice through trust, collaboration, and shared innovation.
- Training, Development & Growth
- Lead the strategic development of the events team, ensuring every individual has a clear pathway for growth and measurable performance objectives.
- Implement structured training and mentoring programmes to enhance skills in leadership, creativity, and consultative client service.
- Promote attendance at industry and non-industry events, fam trips, and networking opportunities as part of professional development—ensuring knowledge, inspiration, and innovation flow back into the agency.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, encouraging curiosity, ambition, and accountability across the team.
- Creativity & Innovation
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Department to ensure every event concept pushes creative boundaries while staying aligned to client objectives.
- Champion Make Events’ value of ‘The Courage to Create’, embedding creativity as a non-negotiable element of event delivery.
- Inspire the team to deliver fresh, innovative, and impactful experiences that surprise and delight clients.
- Ensure creativity is balanced with commercial awareness and operational excellence to achieve outstanding results.
- ROLE REQUIRMENTS
- Extensive experience in leading operations or events teams within an agency environment.
- Proven track record of delivering events that exceed both client expectations and commercial targets.
- Strong leadership capability with demonstrable experience in mentoring and developing high-performing teams.
- Commercially astute, with evidence of previous accountability for P&L and margin delivery.
- Confident communicator and strategic consultant, able to influence at senior levels.
- Well-connected within the events industry, with the ability to leverage relationships for commercial benefit.
- General Requirements
- Current driving licence
- Ability to travel around the UK & overseas
- Flexible approach to working hours as live events may take place over evenings and/or weekends.
- Always comply with the company code of conduct.
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team with colleagues from different viewpoints, cultures and countries.
