Overview

Intelligence Technical Officer within the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit. You will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems to understand Threat, Risk and Harm and improve approaches to tackling environmental offending and officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team and may require incident response duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training to area staff, promote the use and benefits of Memex, and improve the quality of intelligence submissions.
  • Deliver face‑to‑face training on the MEMEX intelligence system.
  • Support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure high quality submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions and provide regular performance reports with feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain high standards of intelligence submission quality.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the role.

Experience and Skills

  • Good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills to ensure Memex use is standard and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self‑management and organisational skills; good teamwork to support colleagues.

Other Information

  • Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices may be required on occasions.
  • Interviews to be conducted via Microsoft Teams in October.
