Overview
As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety.
This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted. You will provide face to face training on our Intelligence system, MEMEX, and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches. You will supervise intelligence logs to ensure high standards of quality in submissions and create entities from Memex submissions. You will provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance and ensure high standards of intelligence submissions. You will perform other duties commensurate with the role. Responding to incidents is a central part of our work. You will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, with alternative working arrangements to support your incident role.
The team: The Intelligence Team manages and develops all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. Made up of several roles and disciplines, we build and maintain strong relationships with partners to drive an intelligence‑led approach to tackling environmental crime across regimes. The team provides a professional and timely service focused on continuous improvement to meet customers’ needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide Memex training to area staff and promote the use and benefits of Memex; improve the quality of intelligence submissions.
- Provide face‑to‑face training on MEMEX; support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
- Supervise intelligence logs to maintain high quality submissions.
- Create entities from Memex submissions.
- Provide regular performance reports and feedback to improve performance.
- Maintain high standards of intelligence submissions and perform other duties commensurate with the role.
- Respond to incidents as part of the role and be available for incident or business continuity support (may include additional payment and training).
Qualifications / Experience
- A good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
- Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
- Excellent influencing skills; ensure Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory.
- Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
- Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective and inclusive training.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback to improve intelligence submission performance.
- Strong self‑management and organisational skills.
- Great teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.
Other information
- You will need to be comfortable working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working, with travel to Birmingham and other offices occasionally.
- Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams and are expected to be in October.
