Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems to understand Threat, Risk and Harm and improve approaches to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety.

This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promoting the use and benefits of Memex, and improving the quality of intelligence submitted. You will provide face‑to‑face training on MEMEX, support and train area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs to ensure high quality submissions, create entities from Memex submissions, provide regular reports on performance, and ensure high standards of intelligence submissions. You will undertake other duties commensurate with the role.

Responding to incidents is a central part of the work. You will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract additional payment and full training, with alternative working arrangements to support the incident role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training to area staff and promote the use and benefits of Memex.
  • Support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches in MEMEX.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to maintain high quality submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions.
  • Provide regular performance reports and feedback to improve performance.
  • Maintain high standards of quality in intelligence submissions.
  • Respond to incidents as required and provide business continuity support.
  • Other duties commensurate with the role.

Experience/skills Required

  • A good understanding of Intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • An ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills, ensuring Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective and inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self‑management and organizational skills.
  • Great teamwork to support colleagues to achieve common goals.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required.
  • Note that visa applications cannot be supported for this role.

Location and Working Arrangements

  • Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasion.
  • Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams and are expected to be in October.
