Overview

NCEA Land Access Database Technical Lead – 31738. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in delivering an operationally vital part of the Environment Agency’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme. The programme supports Defra's wider NCEA programme in building an evidence base on the state and value of our natural environment and ecosystems to transform environmental decision-making in England.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for all aspects of landowner access for the monitoring networks within the NCEA Programme.
  • Maintain landowner data and ensure compliance with Environment Agency and legal requirements.
  • Work with operational specialists to ensure delivery aligns with programme goals and timelines.
  • Maintain strong working relationships across teams.
  • Lead and advise on data management processes, including governance of a key dataset.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure best possible access arrangements for monitoring networks.
  • Utilise strong data management and GIS skills to maintain landowner datasets and perform spatial analysis for NCEA networks.
  • Provide expert technical leadership through training, guidance, and optimisation of data management processes.
  • Work independently and with others to troubleshoot access and programme delivery challenges.
  • Be adaptable and proactive in response to evolving priorities.

Experience/Skills Required

This role is suitable for someone interested in driving a data management project that will transform environmental management and decision making. It provides opportunity to develop networks, build project experience, and work with a range of colleagues and partners.

  • Experience with geospatial data and interacting with internal and external customers; ability to manage datasets for monitoring networks.
  • Strong data management and GIS skills; capability to analyse and maintain landowner datasets and spatial networks.
  • Ability to lead technically through training, guidance, and process optimisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team to troubleshoot challenges and deliver.

This post sits within the National Monitoring – Fish and Ecology team. The Environment Agency is a non-departmental public body, and this is not a Crown Servant position for civil service purposes.
