NCEA Land Access Database Technical Lead - 31738

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in delivering an operationally vital part of the Environment Agency’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme. The programme supports Defra's wider NCEA programme in building a groundbreaking evidence base on the state and value of our natural environment and ecosystems to transform environmental decision-making in England.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for all aspects of landowner access for the monitoring networks within the programme.
  • Maintain landowner data, ensuring compliance with Environment Agency and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with operations specialists to ensure delivery aligns with programme goals and timelines, while maintaining strong working relationships across teams.
  • Offer expert technical leadership through training, guidance, and the optimisation of data management processes.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot challenges in access and programme delivery.
  • Be adaptable and proactive, responding effectively to evolving priorities.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to secure the best possible access arrangements for monitoring networks.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with geospatial data and GIS, and managing datasets connected to landowner information and spatial analysis for NCEA networks.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external customers and to lead data management projects that drive change in environmental management and decision-making.
  • Strong data management and governance capabilities, with a focus on quality and safety of data.
  • Proactive problem solving, ability to work across projects and programmes, and ability to work with a range of colleagues and partners.

What you will do and how we work

  • Provide technical leadership through training, guidance, and optimisation of data management processes.
  • Collaborate with EA’s NCEA Operations team and other stakeholders within the Environment Agency and beyond.
  • Support a culture of learning, adaptation, and continuous improvement.

Contract and Location

  • Length of contract: Up to 2 years.
  • Working location: Flexible national location with EA office base; some travel and overnight stays required.
