Role Summary

The role of Payroll Manager is maintaining all relevant payroll information so that our third-party providers can pay all employees correctly and at the right time. Provide proactive support to the wider People Team with a specific focus on data transfer/integrity and continued systems improvements.

Role Responsibilities

  • Initial run and checking of monthly UK, ROI and Channel Island payrolls – approx. 1400 hourly and 700 salaried employees
  • Liaising with external payroll bureaus to complete payrolls
  • Answer payroll queries from employees
  • Own expenses processes
  • Liaise with all departments within the People Team to ensure data is transferred and processed in correct timescales and accurately.
  • Own the maternity and paternity process
  • Ensuring payrolls are posted and reconciled in the Finance Systems
  • Align self to companies social and environmental mission and champion any actions that you can directly impact at all times
  • Implement annual pay rises, liaising with senior management to ensure budget and legal restraints are adhered to
  • Ensure pension processes are completed in line with legal requirements across all regions
  • Provide Budget and forecast information with regard to all payroll related costs.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years payroll experience
  • Knowledge of Access PeopleXD is an advantage
  • Administrative skills - proficient in office package. Able to manage data from a variety of sources, audit and maintain accurate records.
  • A concern for quality and delivering services to a high standard.
  • Ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

Key Contacts and Relationships

External payroll bureaus – ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery

People Team colleagues – providing payroll data, advice, and support

Finance Team – payroll reconciliation and posting, cost and cashflow forecasting

Store Managers and Retail Leaders – supporting on payroll queries

Colleagues across the business – handling payroll and expenses enquiries

Accountable for Resources

Responsible for accurate processing of payroll data for c.2,100 colleagues across the UK, ROI, and Channel Islands

Ownership of payroll-related records, expenses processes, and statutory leave payments (maternity, paternity, etc.)

Accountable for ensuring payroll systems and data are accurate, secure, and compliant with company and legal standards
