We are looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. The role involves leading investigations into serious environmental crime, working with Partnership Organisations, and developing investigative teams and complex investigations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations in partnership with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room, coordinating all aspects from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and successful prosecution.
  • Coordinate intelligence, raise and allocate actions, coordinate evidence gathering and interviews, and drive investigations forward.
  • Manage investigations that can involve Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.
  • Contribute to the National Environmental Crime Unit within the National Regulation and Monitoring Team, helping to develop the team and progress investigations.

Experience and Skills

  • High attention to detail, hard-working, self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT competency (Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime and leading serious criminal investigations; experience in Major Incident Room operations desirable.
  • Proactive, initiative-driven, able to build and develop investigation teams.
  • Full driving licence; ability to travel frequently; suitability for SC and NPPV2 Vetting (to be completed within 6 months).

Role Specifics

  • Hybrid working: home and Environment Agency office locations; frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
  • Responding to incidents as a central part of the role; incident role requires availability and training (may include additional payment).
