About the role
As a Senior Finance Business Partner you will:
- Provide high‑quality financial information and advice to senior leaders, supporting the development of innovative transformation solutions.
- Build and manage strong relationships with Chief Officers and senior officers, delivering robust budget plans and professional guidance on sound financial management.
- Lead a small team of Finance Business Partners, motivating them to fulfil their full potential.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of core finance processes required for a local authority.
Responsibilities
- Manage a small number of Finance Business Partners and deliver a range of financial support services to a directorate or corporate finance function.
- Support the Finance Leadership Team to embed a strong culture of performance management.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with senior managers, acting as a ‘Trusted Advisor’ and challenging operational decision‑makers.
- Oversee the application of a risk‑based approach to monitoring capital and revenue budgets.
- Co‑ordinate month‑end and year‑end financial processes and reporting in line with organisational deadlines.
- Provide strategic financial advice and guidance to elected members and senior officers.
- Work with finance staff to identify and apply cost‑effective means of improving business processes.
Qualifications
- Relevant CCAB qualification or equivalent, with senior‑level finance experience.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Advanced problem‑solving, analytical and influencing skills.
- Experience of leading, developing and motivating teams.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of current financial and accounting developments.
- Understanding of core financial business processes such as budget planning, monitoring, reporting and account closure.
Essential requirements
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing and collaborative skills.
- Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Experience of working at a senior level in the finance function of a large organisation.
- Experience of leading, developing and motivating staff.
- Experience of successful coaching, mentoring and developing staff.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and diversity of experience.
