About the role

As a Senior Finance Business Partner you will:

• Provide high‑quality financial information and advice to senior leaders, supporting the development of innovative transformation solutions.
• Build and manage strong relationships with Chief Officers and senior officers, delivering robust budget plans and professional guidance on sound financial management.
• Lead a small team of Finance Business Partners, motivating them to fulfil their full potential.
• Demonstrate a good knowledge of core finance processes required for a local authority.

Responsibilities

• Manage a small number of Finance Business Partners and deliver a range of financial support services to a directorate or corporate finance function.
• Support the Finance Leadership Team to embed a strong culture of performance management.
• Develop and maintain professional working relationships with senior managers, acting as a ‘Trusted Advisor’ and challenging operational decision‑makers.
• Oversee the application of a risk‑based approach to monitoring capital and revenue budgets.
• Co‑ordinate month‑end and year‑end financial processes and reporting in line with organisational deadlines.
• Provide strategic financial advice and guidance to elected members and senior officers.
• Work with finance staff to identify and apply cost‑effective means of improving business processes.

Qualifications

• Relevant CCAB qualification or equivalent, with senior‑level finance experience.
• Evidence of continuous professional development.
• Advanced problem‑solving, analytical and influencing skills.
• Experience of leading, developing and motivating teams.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of current financial and accounting developments.
• Understanding of core financial business processes such as budget planning, monitoring, reporting and account closure.

Essential requirements

• Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent negotiation, influencing and collaborative skills.
• Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Experience of working at a senior level in the finance function of a large organisation.
• Experience of leading, developing and motivating staff.
• Experience of successful coaching, mentoring and developing staff.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and diversity of experience.
