Overview

Senior Hydrogeologist role at Mott MacDonald located in the UK (Multiple locations: Cambridge, London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield). This position is within the Water Consultancy Division, focused on hydrogeology and related water resources work for UK and international clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of senior technical advice across groundwater topics including groundwater modelling, groundwater quality, Water Framework Directive, geo-environmental, engineering hydrogeology and groundwater risk assessments.
  • Contribution to bid and proposal writing across water resources, environmental and engineering sectors.
  • Analyzing data using tools such as Modflow, ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Producing high quality reports for clients.

In addition to the technical role, you will have opportunities to develop skills in project management and business development through client engagement and people management.

Role context

We are looking for someone to become an integral part of the Water Resources service area, bringing knowledge in hydrogeology, hydrology, water quality, and related disciplines. Your work will support strategic decisions and deliver lasting benefits to communities and the environment.

Candidate specification

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in hydrogeology, geology, environmental science, mathematics or related discipline
  • Good communication and written skills
  • Well organised, able to prioritise your own workload and support junior team members
  • Logical and pragmatic problem solving, attention to detail and innovation
  • Understanding of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental issues
  • Experience of quantitative assessment of groundwater problems and understanding different groundwater flow systems
  • Experience of analysing environmental datasets including groundwater levels, river flows and climate data
  • Experience delivering projects according to national regulations and guidance
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of groundwater modelling software such as MODFLOW
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) and GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS)

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology, water resources management or related discipline
  • Professional consultancy experience in water resources
  • Chartership with a professional body (e.g., Geological Society, CIWEM, ICE)
