Overview

Senior Land Consultant role at WSP. Location: Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow or Perth) with hybrid working between one of these locations and home. This role is part of WSP’s Land team delivering land referencing, land acquisition, land access, formal consents, statutory orders and landowner engagement.

Your new role, what's involved?

  • Manage and coordinate the technical delivery of land and consents projects whilst being a trusted advisor for our clients for large infrastructure projects in the Energy, Renewables, Road and Rail sectors.
  • Support the writing of bids/tenders to secure opportunities from internal and external clients. Lead on and contribute to business development and client relationship management (externally and internally).
  • The role will involve client-facing activities where you will represent the business at Senior Land Consultant level on projects.
  • Support in motivating the team in Edinburgh/Glasgow/Perth ensuring that the team has the necessary support and training when delivering projects.
  • Experience of training, mentoring or transferring technical knowledge to junior colleagues and the ability to undertake detailed technical assurance of other colleagues’ work. Ability to (and evidence of) assuring work deliverables prior to formal issue to Client.

  • Manage the delivery of land access, landowner engagement and consenting / statutory processes relative to projects based in Scotland, such as CPO and Vesting Orders.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness with an understanding of budget, scope, change control and other project management activities, including identification of project risks. Strong programme/resource management is essential.

Your team

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of WSP’s Land team in the delivery of land referencing, land acquisition, land access, formal consents, statutory orders and landowner engagement. Our Scotland Region includes land consultants, property specialists, and utility/topographical surveyors working across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, collaborating with over 200 Land colleagues across the UK and Ireland on energy, water, road, rail and active-travel projects. We are the largest Land Referencing business in the UK with recent projects including A9 Dualling, SSEN and various onshore renewables clients. You will work with a team of Land Consultants to deliver information required to identify, notify, engage, gain access to lands and secure required consents with landowners affected by infrastructure projects.

We work locally with Scotland-based projects and nationally with other WSP teams, using in-house land information and consultation databases alongside GIS, with a focus on innovation and quality. Our colleagues come from diverse backgrounds including Estate Management, Forestry, Agriculture, Project Management, Liaison Officers, Site Supervision, Land Agency and more.

What we’re looking for

  • Successfully led a technical team of land consultants to deliver land consenting or land assembly services on infrastructure projects. Experience in Scotland / Scottish land ownership information is beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Scotland and UK statutory consent requirements (e.g., Hybrid Bill, DCO, CPO, Vesting Orders) and an understanding of the land and property industry.
  • Good commercial awareness with understanding of budget, scope, change control and other project management activities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on major infrastructure projects within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of leading teams to deliver complex work.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with ability to liaise at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Confidence and experience in providing technical advice to clients.
  • Highly motivated with a strong industry network.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous professional development and professional accreditation.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
  • General IT skills, Microsoft Office suite including Teams, and basic GIS/mapping skills.
